Thanksgiving Feast

Image
Our lunch on thanksgiving fell through so we ended up making a thanksgiving meal. Rotisserie chicken, mashed potatos, boiled brocolli, and a little more. Desert was like a cake mixed you cook in a mug in the microwave. That was pretty good. I had splits one day so I went to the next area over and spent the day with a Brazilian. The area was a little nicer then ours. We just walked from one house to another for appointments. But that's just how it is everyday. That was on black friday and the area had an outdoor shopping center that was full of people. But black friday here is a rip off. About a month before, stores raise prices a ton just so they can drop on friday. But yep that was my week.

Hey, Everything here is practically the same. Everyday I get up and study for a few hours. Then I go out to lunch at a member's house. Every meal is just rice and beans with some random sides. They almost always give us dessert. One simple one is just jello and then you power concentrated milk on it. It's fine, I guess. After lunch we either do proselytizing  or teach lessons. And that last till 9 when we return to our house. During our  proselytizing  time we almost never get any progress done and it flies by super fast. I'm two months in and halfway done with my first transfer, so that's cool. A few days ago we were teaching a kid in his garage. He wanted us to try and be quite since his family was asleep upstairs. After a bit his mom called to see who was in the garage. He just said he was with some friends. Then a bit later a neighbor came to the garage saying the grandma asked to check who was there. She knew who were and left. And then towards the ver...

Itapecerica De Serra

I am just finishing my first two weeks in the field and I'm about to finish my first two months. Time is surprisingly flying by super super fast. Its awesome. I didn't get put into a jungle like I was hoping, for now. (idk how to spell it) but I live in a Favella. Our house is suppose to be for two sets of missionaries, but this transfer there is just me and my comp, Elder Gleaves from North Carolina. Gleaves has only 6 months to go and speaks perfect Portuguese. But Im his first American companion so he is finally getting to speak english again and my Portuguese isn't getting any better. Well it kinda of is, but I still speak a ton in english. Since there are supposed to be two sets of missionaries, we have an extra room that we use to study in. Then we have a kitchen, a "family room", a laundry room, which is just as big as a bedroom. The whole house in general is good for two people but it's full of a ton of junk from older missionaries. It's no...

Out in the field

I only have 10 mins so I'm not going to write a big email. This place is cool. I guess I have two years living here so I don't want to spend my time describing it right now.  The people are all friendly too but I cant talk to almost anyone. My comp is an American so my Portuguese isn't getting much better. We're the only ones in our area so we barely see other missionaries (we did today to play volleyball and we do for district/zone meetings). Our manual says we don't have to pay tithing cuz we are missionaries and our money is tithing - but our mission pres. says we aren't allowed to spend 10% of our money so we can practice tithing. We can't play contact sports - meaning soccer and basketball. The mission itself is good. Also p-day isn't a full day, we work all night. And we WORK all Sunday too. Everything is actually really great. I'm two months in and time is  surprisingly  flying by super super fast. Welp see ya...
